How to Protect Your Fleet

In many areas of the country, it is becoming more and more common for local police to ignore non-injury fender benders. When 2 cars collide, it can be cause for concern. As long as no one is hurt, most people will just walk away and hope for the best. However, at Janus Cam, we have seen what can happen when a person’s eyes light up with dollar signs. They see a company and a professionally driven car, and they think maybe they can get a little something extra. If there is no documentation, you could be in for the headache of a court case and a judgement against your company.

Policies and Procedures

In any accident, your drivers should know what to do. Your people are out on the road every day and may be required to perform first aid to save someone’s life. Profit and possible negative consequences of doing a good deed should only be considered after the accident has been taken care of. If you have a policy in place that says drivers get trained in first aid and should use it when required during an accident, you protect them and other people on the road.

Once everyone has been assessed and is found to be okay and has been pulled out of harm’s way, the driver should take photos of the accident itself and the other car. This documentation will help you figure out exactly what happened and who is at fault.

Candid Camera

With about 25 percent of all accidents involving rear ending someone or getting rear ended, a dashboard camera and a rear camera can be of tremendous help in making sure that you know exactly what was going on outside of the vehicle. Some cameras will also record sounds inside the vehicle, which will help determine if your driver was on the phone when the accident occurred. These proofs can save you a lot of money on litigation—even if you were at fault!
